Barbell Pin Bench Press Conventional Grip

The bench press started from safety pins set at chest height; every rep begins from a dead stop, with no lowering to help it.

How to do it

Setup

In a rack, pins set so the bar rests just above the chest, blades pinned.

Steps

  1. Set tight under the bar resting on the pins.
  2. Press it off the pins to straight arms.
  3. Set it back on the pins and let it come to rest.

Common mistakes

Pins set too high: the bar rests just above the chest. Bouncing the bar off the pins: set it down and start from still. Blades drifting apart between reps: pinch them again.

Breathing

Big breath at the bottom, exhale pressing off the pins.
