Barbell Larsen Press
The bench press with the legs held straight out and the feet off the floor; without leg drive or an arch, the upper body must stay tight on its own.
How to do it
Setup
On a flat bench in a rack with the safeties just below chest height, grip a little wider than the shoulders, legs straight and lifted off the floor.
Steps
- Unrack and lower the bar to the mid-chest, legs still hovering.
- Touch lightly without the hips or legs shifting.
- Press to lockout with the chest and arms alone.
Common mistakes
Loading like a normal bench press: the lost leg drive costs weight; drop plates. Body sliding or tipping on the bench: brace hard and slow the descent. Legs dropping to the floor mid-set: keep them straight and up.
Breathing
Inhale down, exhale pressing.
