Barbell Lying Close-Grip Triceps Extension
Lying with the head at the end of the bench, the upper arms point back past the head; the close-grip bar drops below the bench and the elbows straighten it level with the body.
How to do it
Setup
Lying on a flat bench, head at its end, close grip on the bar, upper arms pointing back past the head.
Steps
- Bend the elbows to lower the bar below the level of the bench.
- Keep the upper arms fixed, pointing back past the head.
- Straighten the elbows until the arms line up with the body.
Common mistakes
Upper arms swinging with the bar: they stay fixed; this is not a pullover. Elbows flaring out: keep them narrow over the head. Arching the lower back off the bench: feet planted, ribs down.
Breathing
Inhale lowering, exhale extending.
